頸動脈超聲波是一個無創傷性、不會釋放任何輻射的檢查，它利用超聲波觀察頸動脈壁影像，能準確量度頸動脈血管壁內膜及中層的厚度，不單能診斷沒有臨床徵狀的血管病變、預測心肌梗塞和腦中風等心血管疾病的風險、反映動脈粥樣硬化的嚴重性及惡化程度，更有助動脈粥樣硬化人士，評估藥物治療的成效。

Carotid echocardiogram is a non-invasive examination without exposure to ionizing radiation. Carotid ultrasound precisely quantifies the combined thickness of the intimal and medial layers of the arterial wall. It is used for identifying and quantifying subclinical vascular disease and for evaluating heart attack, stroke and other cardiovascular diseases. It is also an important investigation to assess atherosclerosis severity and progression, and can be used to evaluate the therapeutic effect of drug therapy on atherosclerosis progression.
